At least two people have been killed and a dozen injured after a man detonated several explosives in Liege, Belgium.

The man is reported to have lobbed several grenades at a bus shelter in Place Saint-Lambert, close to Liege's courthouse and a busy Christmas market, at about 11.30am.
Witnesses reported hearing four explosions and gun fire.
Local televison station RTL-TV1 said that one of two or more assailants threw stun grenades into the courthouse while another was hurled at a bus shelter.
Shots were reportedly fired across the square by gunmen on the rooftop of a bakery, with further shots heard later from across town.
Police cordoned off the square and gave chase to the assailants. One is believed to have been killed...[Full Article]

The Federal Bureau of Investigation employs upwards of 15,000 undercover agents today, ten times what they had on the roster back in 1975.
If you think that’s a few spies too many — spies earning as much as $100,000 per assignment — one doesn’t have to go too deep into their track record to see their accomplishments. Those agents are responsible for an overwhelming amount of terrorist stings that have stopped major domestic catastrophes in the vein of 9/11 from happening on American soil.
Another thing those agents are responsible for, however, is plotting those very schemes.
The FBI has in recent years used trained informants not just to snitch on suspected terrorists, but to set them up from the get-go. A recent report put together by Mother Jones and the Investigative Reporting Program at the University of California-Berkley analyses some striking statistics about the role of FBI informants in terrorism cases that the Bureau has targeted in the decade since the September 11 attacks.
The report reveals that the FBI regularly infiltrates communities where they suspect terrorist-minded individuals to be engaging with others. Regardless of their intentions, agents are sent in to converse within the community, find suspects that could potentially carry out “lone wolf” attacks and then, more or less, encourage them to do so. By providing weaponry, funds and a plan, FBI-directed agents will encourage otherwise-unwilling participants to plot out terrorist attacks, only to bust them before any events fully materialize.
Additionally, one former high-level FBI officials speaking to Mother Jones says that, for every informant officially employed by the bureau, up to three unofficial agents are working undercover.
The FBI has used those informants to set-up and thus shut-down several of the more high profile would-be attacks in recent years. The report reveals that the Washington DC Metro bombing plot, the New York City subway plot, the attempt to blow up Chicago’s Sears Tower and dozens more were all orchestrated by FBI agents. In fact, reads the report, only three of the more well-known terror plots of the last decade weren’t orchestrated by FBI-involved agents.
The report reveals that in many of the stings, important meetings between informants and the unknowing participants are left purposely unrecorded, as to avoid any entrapment charges that could cause the case to be dismissed. Perhaps the most high-profile of the FBI-proposed plots was the case of the Newburgh 4. Around an hour outside of New York City, an informant infiltrated a Muslim community and engaged four local men to carry out a series of attacks. Those men may have never actually carried out an attack, but once the informant offered them a plot and a pair of missiles, they agreed. Defense attorneys cried “entrapment,” but the men still were sentenced to 25 years apiece.
"The problem with the cases we're talking about is that defendants would not have done anything if not kicked in the ass by government agents," Martin Stolar tells Mother Jones. Stolar represented the suspect involved in a New York City bombing plot that was set-up by FBI agents. "They're creating crimes to solve crimes so they can claim a victory in the war on terror." For their part, the FBI says this method is a plan for "preemption," "prevention" and "disruption."
The report also reveals that, of the 500-plus prosecutions of terrorism-related cases they analyzed, nearly half of them involved the use of informants, many of whom worked for the FBI in exchange for money or to work off criminal charges. Of the 158 prosecutions carried out, 49 defendants participated in plots that agent provocateurs arranged on behalf of the FBI.
Experts note that the chance of winning a terrorism-related trial, entrapment or not, is near impossible. "The plots people are accused of being part of — attacking subway systems or trying to bomb a building — are so frightening that they can overwhelm a jury," David Cole, a Georgetown University law professor, tells Mother Jones. Since 9/11, almost two-thirds of the cases linked to terrorism have ended with guilty pleas. “They don't say, 'I've been entrapped,' or, 'I was immature,’” a retired FBI official remarks.
All of this and those guilty pleas often stem for just being in the right place at the wrong time. Farhana Khera of the group Muslim Advocate notes that agents go into mosques on “fishing expeditions” just to see where they can get interest in the community. "The FBI is now telling agents they can go into houses of worship without probable cause," says Khera. "That raises serious constitutional issues."
From the set-up to the big finish, the whole sting operation is ripe with constitutional issues such as that. A decade since 9/11, however, the FBI is reaching through whatever means it can pull together to keep terrorists — or whom they think could someday become one — from ever hurting America.

The death toll rose this afternoon after a further body was found on the island. Early this evening police said 4 or 5 people are still unaccounted for on the island.
It has emerged that the man at the centre of the attack is also a member of a Swedish Nazi forum which encourages attacks on government buildings.
The revelations were revealed by Swedish newspaper Expo who claim Anders Breivik is part of 'Nordisk' which has 22,000 members and focuses on political terrorism.
The 32-year-old who has been identified as the suspect by Norwegian media is also said to have anti-Muslim viewed.
Police are searching the blond, blue-eyed man's flat in Oslo and are still searching the surrounding waters, where people fled the attack, with divers and a mini-submarine.
It has also just been revealed that there is a new bomb alert in the capital and police have reportedly sealed off an area called Solli Plass, an area close to the royal palace.
A spokesman for local police has said that police are continuing to search the area surrounding Utoeya island and said that many of the people who tried to escape by swimming to shore are unaccounted for.
It took investigators several hours to realise the full horror of yesterday's massacre, which followed an explosion in nearby Oslo that killed seven, set off, police said, by the same suspect...[Full Article]

A new promotional video released by the Department of Homeland Security characterizes white middle class Americans as the most likely terrorists, as Big Sis continues its relentless drive to cement the myth that mad bombers are hiding around every corner, when in reality Americans are just as likely to be killed by lightning strikes or peanut allergies.
The video is part of Homeland Security’s $10 million dollar “See Something, Say Something” program that encourages Americans to report “suspicious activity,” which in every case throughout history has been a trait of oppressive, dictatorial regimes.
In the course of the 10 minute clip, a myriad of different behaviors are characterized as terrorism, including opposing surveillance, using a video camera, talking to police officers, wearing hoodies, driving vans, writing on a piece of paper, and using a cell phone recording application.
Despite encouraging viewers not to pay attention to a person’s race in determining whether or not they may be a terrorist, almost all of the scenarios in the clip proceed to portray white people as the most likely terrorists. Bizarrely, nearly every single one of the “patriotic” Americans who reports on their fellow citizen is either black, Asian or Arab. Imagine if the video had portrayed every terrorist as an Arab and every patriotic snoop as white, there’d be an outcry and rightly so, but this strange reversal must have been deliberate on the part of the DHS, but why? Is this merely political correctness taken to the extreme or is something deeper at work?
Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that the DHS’ own internal documents list predominantly white conservative groups as the most likely terrorists, such as Ron Paul supporters, gun owners, gold bullion enthusiasts, and a myriad of other comparatively banal political interests that are largely the domain of white middle class Americans.
This has little to do with the color of a person’s skin, and everything to do with the fact that white, middle class Americans are the biggest roadblock when it comes to Big Sis expanding its control over every facet of American society.
It’s plain to see that very little of the budget for this video went towards paying for decent actors, but perhaps it’s fitting that the participants were about as believable as Santa and his elves, because the notion that terrorists are hovering around every underground parking lot waiting to blow up federal buildings is demonstrably false.
As Ohio University’s John Mueller has documented, the likelihood of actually being a victim of terrorism is infinitesimally small, and only highlights how such threats are hyperbolically exaggerated for political purposes.
Figures collected by Mueller clearly show that Americans are just as likely to be killed by lightning strikes, accident-causing deer, or severe allergic reactions to peanuts.
But the facts don’t matter for a federal agency whose primary function is to manufacture fear to keep Americans under control and submissive to the fact that their economic futures and their constitutional rights are being torn to shreds by their own government while it points to a contrived outside threat as a convenient distraction.
“At its core, the video is filled with scenes of ordinary citizens spying on each other and alerting the authorities to their compatriots’ suspicious deeds,” writes Simon Black. In my favorite scene, a woman calls the police after snooping over the shoulder of a young man typing away on his smartphone.”
Black notes that such videos are solely aimed at reinforcing ignorance, hate and fear for those who still live in darkness and are completely unaware of the real agenda behind Homeland Security’s “see something, say something” charade.
But what is that agenda?
No matter where you look, from East Germany, to Communist Russia, to Nazi Germany, historically governments who encourage their own citizens to report on each other do so not for any genuine safety concerns or presumed benefits to security, but in order to create an authoritarian police state that coerces the people into policing each other’s behavior and thoughts.
As Robert Gellately of Florida State University has highlighted, Germans under Hitler denounced their neighbors and friends not because they genuinely believed them to be a security threat, but because they expected to selfishly benefit from doing so, both financially, socially and psychologically via a pavlovian need to be rewarded by their masters for their obedience.
At the height of its influence around one in seven of the East German population was an informant for the Stasi. As in Nazi Germany, the creation of an informant system was wholly centered around identifying political dissidents and those with grievances against the state, and had little or nothing to do with genuine security concerns.
This is the kind of society the Department of Homeland Security is, whether deliberately or inadvertently, recreating in 21st century America. It is about as far removed as you can possibly get from the vision the founders of the nation had in mind when they created the Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence.

The Swedish military had prior knowledge of the suicide blast which hit a busy shopping street in central Stockholm on Saturday, suggesting the attack was allowed to go ahead in order to bolster the flagging global war on terror.
“A Swedish Armed Forces (Försvarsmakten) employee warned an acquaintance to stay clear of an area in central Stockholm on Saturday where, several hours later, two explosions went off in what is being called a terrorist attack,” reports The Local, an English-language Swedish newspaper.
The TT news agency obtained a copy of a text message sent to the military staffer. “If you can, avoid Drottninggatan today. A lot can happen there…just so you know,” it read.
Armed Forces spokesperson Jonas Svensson initially said he was unaware of the message but would be checking into its origins. Swedish military sources later acknowledged the authenticity of the message and said they were “preparing how the issue will be dealt with”.
Intelligence analysis professor Wilhelm Agrell said that Swedish authorities may have known in advance of the suicide bombing, but military spokesperson Erik Lagersten denied any prior knowledge in a statement.
“The Swedish Armed Forces did not know ahead of time about the plans or the circumstances surrounding the events which have taken place. If that had been the case, (Swedish security service) Säpo, which is the responsible agency in these types of cases, would have been informed immediately,” he said.
Middle East-born Taimour Abdulwahab al-Abdaly has been blamed for the bombing. Al-Abdaly was killed as he tried to set off the car bomb and two others were injured. Repots say that he was also wearing a bomb belt, though the cause of a second explosion 300 meters away from the car are murky given the fact that Al-Abdaly died in the initial blast.
Al-Abdaly’s motivation for the attack has already been identified as his grievance against occupying troops in Afghanistan, making the story readily exploitable for propaganda to bolster the global war on terror.
The attack is very similar in nature to that attempted by so-called “Times Square bomber” Faisal Shahzad, who was a member of the CIA-controlled Jaish-e-Muhammad terrorist organization. Shahzad was directed by Al-Qaeda terror mastermind Anwar Al-Awlaki, the man who helped plot the aborted Christmas Day bombing, the Fort Hood shooting, and who also preached to the alleged September 11 hijackers.
As we have documented, Al-Awlaki is the CIA’s foremost patsy handler, having dined at the Pentagon just months after 9/11.

Intelligence agencies — legendary for staging numerous false flag attacks — are warning that Osama bin Laden has issued instructions for Mumbai-style attack on three European targets.
Earlier in the week U.S. officials issued a warning that Osama and crew would strike once again. The new plot, emerging suspiciously close to U.S. mid-term elections and coinciding with the Pentagon’s illegal murder campaign in Pakistan, is said to “credible but non-specific.” The new plot was supposedly revealed by a suspect undergoing “interrogation” at the Bagram torture facility in Afghanistan.
“Investigators believe al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden signed off on a European attack plan, a separate law enforcement source said. But U.S. and international officials say they have seen no sign of an imminent attack,” CNN reported on September 29.
Osama bin Laden: CIA Asset
Osama bin Laden ran MAK (Maktab al-Khidamat), an organization created by Pakistan’s ISI at the behest of the CIA. It funneled money, weapons, and internationally recruited fighters into the war created in part by Jimmy Carter’s National Security Adviser, Zbigniew Brezinski. Osama was closely tied to the Afghan warlord and ISI stooge Gulbuddin Hekmatyar who ran drugs for the CIA. In the 1980s, emissaries from the United States met with Osama. The CIA paid Osama to train the militant group Abu Sayyaf and others at his CIA-built camps in Afghanistan. In New York, Osama’s MAK operated the CIA-connected al-Kifah Refugee Center that was involved in the 1993 WTC bombing. The U.S. government would later call the al-Kifah charity the “precursor organization to al-Qaeda.”
MSNBC, the New Yorker, Le Monde, and other corporate media sources reported on these connections, but after September 11, 2001, the evidence was relegated to the memory hole and a new narrative was established.
Bin Laden Died in December, 2001
Osama bin Laden “died a peaceful death due to an untreated lung complication” in December, 2001, according to a report carried by none other than Fox News. The FBI, former Pakistan dictator Musharraf, Afghan puppet leader Hamid Karzai, Israeli intelligence, the late Benazir Bhutto, and many others have said Osama bin Laden is dead.
In a purported will published in a London-based Arab news magazine, al-Majalla, Osama allegedly instructed “mujahedeen everywhere” to “devote your efforts to purifying your groups from the agents and the cowards and those impostors who claim to be scholars amongst you,” in other words operatives working for the CIA, Mossad, and British intelligence.
CNN carried a report on the will on October 26, 2002, but the fact Osama is dead and buried is never mentioned when CNN publishes stories warning that the CIA created terror leader has issued a tape or warnings of attacks that never seem to occur.
Bin Laden: A Boogieman Designed to Perpetuate a Phony War on Terror
As David Ray Griffin notes, the phantom Osama is perpetually recycled to justify a war on terror designed to encompass a perpetually expanding array of targets. “Obama has appealed regularly to… intelligence estimates, which have invariably claimed that bin Laden is hiding in Pakistan, somewhere along its border with Pakistan. This claim has been used to justify the extension of US military activity into Pakistan,” Griffin wrote last October. The “fake bin Laden tapes appear to be simply one part of an extensive propaganda operation, in which the US military intelligence is using tax dollars – illegally – to propagandize the American public, with the aim of furthering the militarization of America and its foreign policy.”
Earlier this year, the CIA admitted “creating a fake video in which intelligence officers dressed up as Osama Bin Laden and his cronies in an effort to defame the terrorist leader,” Paul Jospeh Watson wrote on May 25. “This latest revelation bolsters evidence that the intelligence agencies, and perhaps more significantly, the military have been engaged in creating fake Bin Laden videos in the past.”
It is said Osama no longer produces video tapes because they may reveal his whereabouts. “Over recent years, bin Laden has issued audio tapes but no videos, after it emerged that the CIA was trying to identify where he was hiding by looking at the vegetation in videos he had released. In more than 30 audio and video tapes, he has warned European countries and the US about attacks and praised previous ones, although he has never talked of a preferred method,” reports the Telegraph.
Establishment Creates Fake Terror Threats for Political Gain
In July, a former senior adviser to Bill Clinton said that the only thing will rescue Obama’s presidency as his approval figures continue to plunge is a terror attack on the scale of Oklahoma City or 9/11. As Prison Planet noted July 14, Clinton was able to extinguish an anti-incumbent rebellion which was brewing in the mid 1990s by exploiting the OKC bombing to demonize his political enemies.
Former Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge wrote in his memoir last year that the neocon-infested Bush administration had raised the nation’s terror alert level in the days before the 2004 presidential election.
“An election-eve drama was being played out at the highest levels of our government” after Osama bin Laden released a pre-election message critical of Bush, Ridge writes. Attorney General John Ashcroft and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld strongly advocated raising the security threat level to “orange,” even though Ridge believed a threatening message “should not be the sole reason to elevate the threat level,” CNN reported.

The terrorists are up to their old tricks again – using the threat of violence as a psychological ploy to intimidate voters before an election. But these terrorists don’t live in caves in central Asia, they head up federal agencies, governments, and Hollywood production studios.
Just as former Homeland Security chief Tom Ridge admitted that DHS would issue fake terror alerts shortly before elections in a bid to influence the outcome during the Bush era, the Obama administration is mimicking the same tactic.
Over the last couple of weeks we have seen an explosion in terror alerts, with the latest revolving around an alleged plot to launch Mumbai-style massacres on US as well as European cities.
Since it ultimately emerged that the mastermind behind the Mumbai massacre was CIA agent David Headley, warnings from the same intelligence agencies about similar attacks being planned should be treated as a direct threat. Throughout the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, the Central Intelligence Agency played a key role in Operation Gladio, a program of false flag terror attacks on soft targets that were designed to demonize political opposition and “force the public to turn to the state to ask for greater security,” according to the testimony of Gladio agent Vincenzo Vinciguerra.
In 2000, an Italian Senate investigation found that the 1980 Bologna train bombing, which killed 85 people, was carried out by “men inside Italian state institutions and … men linked to the structures of United States intelligence,” so when federal agents claim they are radiating American truckers with x-ray devices in a bid to stop Madrid-style train bombings, which was the justification cited for a 4th-amendment busting travel checkpoint on Interstate 20 just west of Atlanta this week, their reasoning doesn’t hold much weight.
In attempting to “force the public to turn to the state to ask for greater security,” the establishment hopes to derail the momentum of Tea Party candidates like Rand Paul and Sharron Angle, whose entire campaigns are built on the premise of turning away from the state and giving power back to the individual. Manipulating voters by threatening terror worked for the Republicans in 2004, but the Democrats might have to go a step further if they hope to use it as a deciding factor in 2010.
Following the FBI raids on anti-war activists last week, it’s clear that the Obama administration now considers its political adversaries as both those on the left who have abandoned their support for Obama over his continuation of Bush’s wars, and those on the right who have sworn to resist the seemingly ceaseless march of statism. This probably equates to about 70 or 80 per cent of politically active Americans who are now labeled “domestic terrorists” by their own government. Recall that the Department of Defense now considers any form of protest as “low level terrorism”. As we have seen from the MIAC report, the spying case in Pennsylvania, and a host of others in recent years, the federal government defines “terrorist propaganda” as any material critical of the state.
Eager to distract people from the fact that every major terror attack in recent decades has been carried out with the aid of governments and intelligence agencies, Hollywood propaganda shows are making sure Americans know who to blame when the next federal building blows up – the Tea Party. The recent series premiere of CBS’ CSI Miami featured a plot which revolved around “a terrorist with Tea Party leanings,” played by Justin Bieber, who was seen to attend Tea Party-style rallies before planning to bomb a Las Vegas Police Department funeral.
This is yet another example of “predictive programming,” identifying the culprits of any such domestic terror attack before it even occurs, no matter who is really behind the attack, so when a Timothy McVeigh style character who believes in the constitution and gun rights is dragged out as the patsy, TV-watching zombies instantly know he’s guilty and there’s little need for a real investigation.
Conservatives who have dismissed government-sponsored terror as an invention of the loony conspiracy fringe better brush up on the history of Northwoods, Operation Gladio, 9/11, and the Oklahoma City Bombing, because the Obama administration is by all means ruthless enough to stage a false flag attack and use it to demolish the reputation of the Tea Party, just as Bill Clinton exploited the FBI-directed OKC bombing to go after talk radio and the patriot movement in the 90’s.
Indeed, it was only two months ago that former Clinton advisor Robert Shapiro wrote in the Financial Times that the only thing that could save Obama’s tenuous grip on power was a terror attack on the scale of Oklahoma City or 9/11.
Don’t be fooled into thinking that people like Rahm Emanuel, the knife-wielding son of a former Irgun terrorist who bombed hotels, won’t be prepared to resort to desperate measures in a bid to neutralize the snowballing success of an anti-establishment political climate which threatens to seriously impinge upon the power monopoly of the Washington elite, the Israeli lobby, and the rest of the new world order kingpins who are sitting ever more uncomfortably in their ivory towers as the election gets closer and closer.

President Obama’s ominous claim that America can “absorb” a terror attack will have many fearing that staging some kind of false flag event will be the only way the government can overturn the massive resistance to big government that has grown exponentially since Obama took office.
During an interview with journalist Bob Woodward, the president said, “We can absorb a terrorist attack. We’ll do everything we can to prevent it, but even a 9/11, even the biggest attack ever . . . we absorbed it and we are stronger.”
However, the only thing that was made stronger by 9/11 was the federal government’s power to harass, shake down and spy on the American people, as was exemplified yet again recently when Pennsylvania’s Office of Homeland Security was caught conducting surveillance on peaceful protest groups with the aid of an Israeli security company who listed Second Amendment groups amongst others as terrorists.
Given how both Bush and Clinton before him exploited terror attacks on U.S. soil to boost their flagging political agendas, we should be wary of Obama and his masters making good use of their own “October surprise” to counter record low approval figures for Congress on the eve of the midterm elections.
Talk show hosts such as Michael Savage have long been warning of a “Reichstag fire-like event” would be concocted to reinvigorate support behind Obama and given that his advisors include such ruthless individuals as Rahm Emanuel, the knife wielding son of a former Israeli terrorist who was involved in bombing hotels, marketplaces as well as massacres, we would be naive to put anything past these people.
Indeed, it was only two months ago that former Clinton advisor Robert Shapiro wrote in the Financial Times that the only thing that could save Obama’s tenuous grip on power was a terror attack on the scale of Oklahoma City or 9/11.
“The bottom line here is that Americans don’t believe in President Obama’s leadership,” said Shapiro, adding, “He has to find some way between now and November of demonstrating that he is a leader who can command confidence and, short of a 9/11 event or an Oklahoma City bombing, I can’t think of how he could do that.”
Shapiro was clearly communicating the necessity for a terror attack to be launched in order to give Obama the opportunity to unite the country around his agenda in the name of fighting terrorists, just as President Bush did in the aftermath of 9/11 when his approval ratings shot up from around 50% to well above 80%.
Similarly, Bill Clinton was able to extinguish an anti-incumbent rebellion which was brewing in the mid 1990’s by exploiting the OKC bombing to demonize his political enemies as right-wing extremists. As Jack Cashill points out, Clinton “descended on Oklahoma City with an approval rating in the low 40s and left town with a rating well above 50 and the Republican revolution buried in the rubble.”
Only by exploiting a domestic terror attack which can be blamed on right-wing radicals, or by rallying the country round another war in the middle east, can Obama hope to reverse the tide of anti-incumbency candidates that threaten to drastically dilute the power monopoly of establishment candidates from both major political parties in Washington.
Shapiro is by no means the first to point out that terror attacks on U.S. soil and indeed anywhere in the world serve only to benefit those in positions of power.
During the latter years of the Bush presidency, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld mused with Pentagon top brass that shrinking Capitol Hill support for expanding the war on terror could be corrected with the aid of another terror attack.
Lt.-Col. Doug Delaney, chair of the war studies program at the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario, told the Toronto Star in July 2007 that “The key to bolstering Western resolve is another terrorist attack like 9/11 or the London transit bombings of two years ago.”
The same sentiment was also explicitly expressed in a 2005 GOP memo, which yearned for new attacks that would “validate” the President’s war on terror and “restore his image as a leader of the American people.”
In June 2007, the chairman of the Arkansas Republican Party Dennis Milligan said that there needed to be more attacks on American soil for President Bush to regain popular approval.
The Obama administration has proven itself to be alarmingly adept at lying about every issue under the sun, so why should we believe any different when it comes to the terror threat to America?
Using terror or the threat of terror as a political tool has been a routine ploy in recent years, and was acknowledged by former Homeland Security chief Tom Ridge when he admitted he was forced to issue fake terror alerts shortly before elections to influence the outcome.
Threatening terror has also been a tactic of some of Obama’s biggest supporters in the Democratic party, people like former Senator Gary Hart, who in 2007 wrote a thinly veiled threat to Iranian leaders pointing out that the U.S. has been involved in numerous staged provocations over the years to achieve political agendas, mentioning specifically the Gulf of Tonkin incident and the sinking of the Maine.
Given the documented history of staged false flag events being used to manipulate both domestic and geopolitical affairs, added to the numerous threats of such provocations from several highly respected political operatives, it would be foolish to rule out the notion that the Obama administration could turn to such desperate measures in a last gasp effort to salvage power and demonize its growing legions of political adversaries.

Napolitano, Mueller, Leiter Discuss Increased Tempo of Attacks Against U.S.

The nation's top counterterrorism officials were blunt. The threat from within---of Americans willing to commit terrorist acts--- is growing. FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III told a congressional hearing today that a spike in recent terrorism cases is direct evidence of the evolving threat.
"Groups affiliated with al Qaeda are now actively targeting the United States and looking to use Americans or Westerners who are able to remain undetected by heightened security measures," Mueller said. "It appears domestic extremism and radicalization appears to have become more pronounced based on the number of disruptions and incidents."
Mueller appeared before the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs committee along with Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and National Counterterrorism Chief Michael Leiter.
"Homegrown terrorists represent a new and changing facet of the terrorist threat." Napolitano said, "To be clear, by homegrown, I mean terrorist operatives who are U.S. persons, and who were radicalized in the United States."
The officials all pointed to a series of recent incidents that show that al Qaeda, its affiliates and associates were more active than ever.
"During the past year our nation has dealt with the most significant developments in the terrorist threat to the Homeland since 9/11," Leiter told the committee. "The attack threats are now more complex, and the diverse array of threats tests our ability to respond, and makes it difficult to predict where the next attack may come.
The attacks cited included:
The disruption of a plot to bomb the New York City subway by Najibullah Zazi, a naturalized U.S. citizen, last September.
The attack at Ft Hood Texas by gunman Army Maj. Nidal Hassan which resulted in 13 people killed and over 30 wounded.
The attempted Christmas Day bombing of Northwest Airlines flight 253 by alleged al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula operative Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab.
The averted May 1 bombing in Times Square by Faisal Shahzad.
Officials: Internet Is Powerful Recruiting Tool
Hassan, Abdulmutallab and Shahzad are all believed to have links or have been influenced by radical Muslim cleric Anwar Awlaki, a Yemeni-American who has moved from a propagandist for al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula to an operational role, active in attack planning. Those three were far from alone. In the past two years over 60 Americans have been arrested or convicted on terrorism charges.
Shortly after the Zazi case was disrupted, the FBI conducted a series of sting operations that showed the increase in the number of individuals in the U.S. willing to take action on behalf of terrorist groups.
In Dallas, Hosam Maher Husain Smadi, an illegal immigrant from Jordan, placed what he thought was a powerful car bomb in the parking garage of a Dallas office building.
The FBI also conducted a sting and arrested Michael Finton, who authorities say converted to Islam in prison. Finton allegedly drove a van he believed was carrying a ton of explosives and parked it in front of the federal courthouse in Springfield, Ill.
Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-CT), the chairman of the committee said, "These attacks and others show the full range of threats we now face from lone wolves."
Leiter, the head of the National Counterterrorism Center, said that the vast array of terrorist propaganda on the Internet was having an influence in driving individuals in the United States to turn to potential acts of terrorism.
Describing the power of the Internet and its use as a recruiting tool, Leiter said, "A blend of al Qaeda inspiration, perceived victimization, and glorification of past plotting, has become increasingly accessible through the Internet, and English-language websites are tailored to address the unique concerns of US-based extremists."

WASHINGTON -- Fighting homegrown terrorism by monitoring Internet communications is a civil liberties trade-off the U.S. government must make to beef up national security, the nation's homeland security chief said Friday.
As terrorists increasingly recruit U.S. citizens, the government needs to constantly balance Americans' civil rights and privacy with the need to keep people safe, said Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.
But finding that balance has become more complex as homegrown terrorists have used the Internet to reach out to extremists abroad for inspiration and training. Those contacts have spurred a recent rash of U.S.-based terror plots and incidents.
"The First Amendment protects radical opinions, but we need the legal tools to do things like monitor the recruitment of terrorists via the Internet," Napolitano told a gathering of the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy.
Napolitano's comments suggest an effort by the Obama administration to reach out to its more liberal, Democratic constituencies to assuage fears that terrorist worries will lead to the erosion of civil rights...

More patsies were arrested on Saturday and immediately fed into the fake terror propaganda machine. “Two New Jersey men who were bound for Somalia to join an Islamic extremist group and to kill American troops were arrested at Kennedy International Airport late Saturday, federal and local authorities announced on Sunday,” the New York Times reports today.
It is said Mohamed Haoud Alessa and Carlos Eduardo Almonte wanted to join al-Shabaab, a shadowy terror group accused of working with al-Qaeda, the CIA database that morphed into a scary mirage after everything changed on September 11, 2001. “They were charged in a criminal complaint with conspiring to kill, maim and kidnap people outside the United States and were expected to be arraigned in federal court in Newark on Monday, according to the officials.”
The latest carnival sideshow follows a familiar pattern. The patsies were “under scrutiny” by the FBI since 2006. In other words, they were played by the FBI and turned in devil incarnates as no shortage of previous patsies have been over the last few years. “Beginning in 2009, an undercover officer from the New York Police Department’s Intelligence Division recorded numerous meetings and conversations with them, during which they discussed their plans,” reports the Times. Translation: the dim-wits were encouraged to say bad things about the United States and align themselves with the Islamic network contrived by intelligence agencies around the world since the CIA began spending billions in Afghanistan beginning in 1979 during the Carter administration.
“They talked about what they said was their obligation to wage violent jihad and at times expressed a willingness to commit acts of violence in the United States” under the tutelage of the FBI.
It appears, however, the two men merely wanted to get the hell out of the Bizarro Sates of America. “I leave this time, God willing, I never come back. I’ll never see this crap hole,” Mr. Alessa told his FBI controllers. Alessa said he would come back, however, if instructed to do so by his CIA handler.
Mr. Almonte apparently has more than two brain cells to rub together. He said that there would soon be United States troops in Somalia and he looked forward to killing U.S. soldiers.
In fact, the U.S. military is already operating in Somalia. In 2006, another CIA patsy, Saleh Ali Nabhan, was killed in Somalia by U.S. Special Forces in a region controlled by al-Shabab. The Pentagon’s Special Operations Command has been involved in Somalia as part of Operation Provide Relief and Unified Task Force supposedly under the aegis of the globalist lapdog the United Nations.
“A report last week revealed that the top US commander in the Middle East had signed an order last September authorizing a big expansion of clandestine military missions in the region, and also in Iran, Saudi Arabia and Somalia,” the Times Online reported last week. “The dramatic expansion in the use of special forces, which in their global span go far beyond the covert missions authorized by George W. Bush, reflects how aggressively the President is pursuing al-Qaeda behind his public rhetoric of global engagement and diplomacy.”
The New Jersey arrests are the latest effort by the government to convince you homegrown terrorism is on the rise and you should waive more of your inalienable rights and accept naked body scanners, CCTV camera everywhere, and 24/7 NSA surveillance of all communications.
“Investigators say they’re also among many U.S. terrorism suspects to have been inspired by two well-known U.S. citizens who have recruited terrorists through the Internet: Adam Gadahn, an al-Qaida spokesman in Pakistan, and Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical al-Qaida cleric hiding in Yemen who is believed to have helped inspire recent attacks including the Fort Hood shooting, the Times Square bombing attempt and the failed Christmas Day airline bombing,” reports Forbes.
Get ready for more patsies and dim bulbs who think usually transparent FBI agents are al-Qaeda. It looks like we are working our way toward another false flag. In the lead-up a number of patsies will be paraded before the American people who have already signaled they are not finished surrendering their rights to the state.

Washington (CNN) -- When the Obama administration unveils its National Security Strategy Thursday, it will be the first time a president explicitly recognizes the threat posed to the country by radicalized individuals at home.
"For the first time since 9/11, the NSS integrates homeland security and national security," according to highlights of the plan given to CNN by a senior administration official said.
The security strategy acts as a blueprint for how the White House intends to protect Americans. In the past, it has focused mostly on international threats. But National Security Adviser John Brennan explained Wednesday that a spate of terror-related plots in the United States recently prompted the Obama administration to include homegrown terrorism in the document.
"Such a strategy must begin with the recognition that a clear-eyed understanding of our strategic environment -- the world as it is today -- is necessary to shape the world that we seek," according to a summary of the plan.
"Currently, the United States is focused on completing a responsible transition in Iraq, succeeding in Afghanistan, and defeating al Qaeda and its terrorist affiliates, while moving our economy from deep recession to enduring recovery. Even as we confront these crises, our national strategy must take a longer view. We must adapt and lead in a rapidly changing, interconnected world in which interests of nations and peoples are increasingly shared."
Homegrown terrorism represents a new phase of the terrorist threat, officials said.
Earlier this month, Pakistani-American Faisal Shahzad was charged with trying to detonate a car bomb in New York's bustling district of Times Square.
U.S. Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan is suspected of fatally shooting 13 people at Fort Hood in November.
Colorado resident Najibullah Zazi, an Afghan national, pleaded guilty in February for conspiring to detonate explosives in the New York subway system.
David Headley, an American citizen from Chicago, Illinois, is accused of providing surveillance in the Mumbai, India, terrorist attacks that killed 160 people.
"We've seen an increasing number of individuals here in the United States become captivated by extremist ideology or causes," Brennan said. "We have seen individuals, including U.S. citizens armed with their U.S. passports, travel easily to extremist safe havens, return to America, their deadly plans disrupted by coordinated intelligence and law enforcement."
Brennan, who made his comments at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, said that as the United States has strengthened its defenses against massive attacks like 9/11, al Qaeda has shown itself to be a "resilient, resourceful and determined enemy."
Brennan said al Qaeda is recruiting individuals with little training, attempting relatively unsophisticated attacks and seeking people living in the United States to launch such attacks.
"They are seeking foot soldiers who might slip through our defense," Brennan said. "As our enemy adapts and evolves their tactics, so must we constantly adapt and evolve ours."
Brennan did not provide any specific details about the president's strategy for combating al Qaeda and its affiliates, but said it "will require a broad, sustained and integrated campaign that harnesses every tool of American power, military and civilian, kinetic and diplomatic."

But the feds are not worried about this. Instead they claim to be worried about the Somalia-based al-Shabaab terrorist group.
“The Department of Homeland Security is alerting Texas authorities to be on the lookout for a suspected member of the Somalia-based Al Shabaab terrorist group who might be attempting to travel to the U.S. through Mexico,” a security expert tells Fox News.
It is said the group is running hundreds of Somalis from Brazil through South America and eventually across the Mexican border. “Many of the illegal immigrants, who court records say were given fake IDs, are alleged to have ties to other now-defunct Somalian terror organizations that have merged with active organizations like Al Shabaab, al-Barakat and Al-Ittihad Al-Islami.”
Al-Shabaab has aligned itself with the prized fake terror war asset al-Qaeda and has made statements about its intent to harm the United States, according to Fox. “In recent years, American Somalis have been recruited by Al Shabaab to travel to Somalia, where they are often radicalized by more extremist or operational anti-American terror groups, which Al Shabaab supports. The recruiters coming through the Mexican border are the ones who could be the most dangerous, according to law enforcement officials.”
In April, Somalis with alleged ties to al-Shabaab were arrested and then “mistakenly” released from custody in Mexico (meanwhile, apprehended illegals from Guatemala rot in prison). “Included in the group is Mohamed Osman Noor, 35, of Somalia, who U.S. officials suspect has strong ties to Al-Shabaab Mujahideen, an Islamist insurgency group in the ongoing war in Somalia with ties to al Qaeda,” the Washington Examiner reported.
“All were in Mexican Immigration custody due to illegal entry into Mexico and were released on January 21, 2010,” said an intelligence official with the Laredo Sector Border Intelligence Center, a joint federal task force under the Department of Homeland Security that operates on the border. “All agents are reminded to maintain a heightened level of awareness and emphasize officer safety tactics when encountering individuals at all times. All agents are highly encouraged to wear ballistic armor, utilize long arms and work in groups when responding to illicit activity along the immediate border.”
“Something must have gone wrong internally for these persons to have been released by Mexican authorities. If you can move narcotics and other contraband through the porous border, you can’t tell me they don’t have the ability to move terrorists as well,” said a former U.S. government official who worked closely with Mexican authorities on border issues.
Nothing went wrong and members of al-Shabaab were not released by mistake.
The CIA has facilitated the movement of terrorists — or more accurately, patsies and dupes — across international borders for decades.
Michael Springmann, a former head U.S. consular official in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, was ordered to issue more than 100 visas to unqualified applicants who later turned out to be associated with al-Qaeda. The CIA told Springmann to expedite the visas.
Recall radical Muslim leader and useful idiot Sheikh Omar Abdul-Rahman who was convicted of plotting to blow up the the Lincoln and Holland tunnels, the George Washington Bridge and a federal building housing the FBI. He was issued a visa to enter the United States by the CIA — in fact, he was a spiritual leader of the CIA-backed mujaheddin in Afghanistan. He entered and exited the U.S. at will, never mind he was on a terror watch list.
Osama bin Laden’s brother-in-law was fortunate enough to get a visa from the CIA through the U.S. consulate in Jeddah. Mohammed Jamal Khalifa was kicked out of the Philippines because he was a suspected terrorist. He had no problem, thanks to the CIA, entering the United States.
The notorious al-Qaeda mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, who later confessed to blowing up buildings that did not exist, had a valid U.S. visa.
The 19 cave-dwelling 9/11 hijackers applied for and received a total of 23 visas at five different posts from November 1997 through June 2001. Hani Hanjour, Khalid Almihdhar, Saeed Alghamdi and Ahmed Alnami, all Saudi citizens, applied twice at the CIA’s Jeddah visa mill. Only Hanjour applied for a student visa, the others received tourist and business visas. Fayez Ahmed Banihammad and Marwan Alshehhi received their visas in Abu Dhabi and Mohamed Atta and Ziad Jarrah applied for visas at the U.S. embassy in Berlin.
In short, there is no reason for Muslim evil-doers who hate our freedoms to enter the country illegally when the CIA can get them in with few questions asked.
The terror look-out on the Texas-Mexico border is simply another propaganda effort designed to frighten the American people. It will not be used as an argument to close the border. It will be used to attack the Constitution and the Bill of Rights like past fake terror events and would-be underwear and fizzle non-bombings are now being used as an excuse to chip away at our liberty and construct a high-tech surveillance and control grid.

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) - In light of the recent attempt to set off a bomb in New York's Times Square, extra eyes are keeping watch over possible terrorist targets. A national program is training parking attendants to watch for suspicious people.
Las Vegas, one of the hottest tourist spots in the world makes one wonder if what happened in New York could happen here.
"Would you want to come someplace where terrorists are setting off bombs," asks Las Vegas resident Jim Hawkins.

Al-Qaeda still aims to strike inside the United States but home-grown or unaffiliated extremists now "pose an equally serious threat," FBI chief Robert Mueller warned US lawmakers Thursday.
"Al Qaeda and its affiliates are still committed to striking us in the United States," Mueller told a Senate Appropriations Subcommittee, pointing to plots to bomb New York City subways and the failed Christmas airline attack.
"Home-grown and lone-wolf extremists pose an equally serious threat," the Federal Bureau of Investigation director said, citing the shootings at the sprawling Fort Hood army base in Texas.
Experts have warned that a "lone wolf" -- an extremist acting alone, without connections to an established network like Al-Qaeda -- may be the most difficult threat for authorities to thwart...

President Obama told delegates from 47 nations at the Nuclear Security Summit on Tuesday that it would be a "catastrophe for the world" if al-Qaeda or another terrorist group got a nuclear device, because so many lives would be lost and it would be so hard to mitigate damage from the blast.
A 10-kiloton nuclear explosion would level buildings within half a mile of ground zero, generate 900-mph winds, bathe the landscape with radiation and produce a plume of fallout that would drift for hundreds of miles, the guide says. It was posted on the Internet and sent to local officials.
The document is designed to help local officials craft plans for responding to a nuclear blast. The prospect is anything but far-fetched, says Rick Nelson of the Center for Strategic and International Studies. "Do I think in my lifetime I'll see the detonation of a nuclear device? I do."...
