Cops' Use of Illegal Steroids a 'Big Problem'

The badge and a steroid-filled syringe -- it's not the typical image most have for the abuse of performance-enhancing drugs. But as more within law enforcement get nabbed in steroid investigations nationwide, observers say that usage levels among police officers could rival the seediest patches of the pro sports landscape.

"It's a big problem, and from the number of cases, it's something we shouldn't ignore," Drug Enforcement Administration spokesman Lawrence Payne told AOL News. "It's not that we set out to target cops, but when we're in the middle of an active investigation into steroids, there have been quite a few cases that have led back to police officers."...

FBI Agents, Including Female Bodybuilder, Arrested For Alleged Steroid, HGH Use
Male Agent Saw Gynecologist to Get $10K Worth Of Drugs, Investigators Charge

Three FBI agents and an FBI counterterrorism expert have been arrested and charged with obtaining thousands of dollars worth of steroids and human growth hormone using bogus medical diagnoses, and then lying about it on government health forms.

Prosecutors say that two of the agents, a female bodybuilder and her husband, may have spent $17,000 on HGH, while a third male agent was visiting a gynecologist in order to obtain steroids and HGH. Two different doctors were allegedly writing prescriptions for the four suspects using false diagnoses of dwarfism, and one of the doctors had allegedly written more than 5,000 prescriptions for steroids in the past five years...

Steroid Probe Targets 2 More Akron Officers

Two more Akron police officers are on leave amid suspicion of using anabolic steroids, a department spokesman confirmed Thursday.

The officers were placed on paid administrative leave earlier this week based on allegations that have surfaced in an expanding internal investigation into steroid use by Akron officers.

No charges or other disciplinary measures have been levied against the officers, who were ordered to submit urine samples for drug testing...
