Israel to retroactively legitimize illegal settlements that were “looted from their owners”

Activist Post

One of the West Bank’s largest illegal Israeli settlements, Ofra, is now going to be legitimized and upheld by the state of Israel regardless of the fact that much of it was built on privately owned Palestinian land.

Does this represent the state of Israel spitting in the face of the Palestinian people in preparation for their bid for UN statehood? Is this a warning of what is to come if the Palestinians will not back down and kowtow to their Israeli occupiers?

We can’t be sure, but we do know that this is yet another instance of Israel flouting international law without hesitation.

Only the state of Israel seems to be able to get away with these egregious violations of international law and humanitarian law, as even totally unconfirmed reports can lead to NATO interventions in other nations, as we have seen in Libya...[Full Article]

Israel-Palestinian violence erupts on three borders

Reuters

(Reuters) - Violence erupted on Israel's borders with Syria, Lebanon and Gaza on Sunday, leaving at least eight dead and dozens wounded, as Palestinians marked what they term "the catastrophe" of Israel's founding in 1948.

Israeli troops shot at protesters in three separate locations to prevent crowds from crossing Israeli frontier lines in the deadliest such confrontation in years.

Israeli and Syrian media reports said Israeli gunfire killed four people after dozens of Palestinian refugees infiltrated the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights from Syria, along a disputed border that has been quiet for decades...[Full Article]

Helen Thomas Won't Renounce the Truth...

Helen Thomas: Jews control White House, US Congress

The Jerusalem Post

In 'Playboy' interview, veteran US journalist stands behind anti-Israel comments that led to her resignation: "I knew exactly what I was doing."

Veteran US Journalist Helen Thomas said that Jews have "total control" over the White House and US Congress, telling Playboy magazine in an interview to be published in April, "Everybody is in the pocket of the Israeli lobbies."

Thomas, who covered the White House for more than six decades, was forced to resign from her position at Hearst Corp. last year, after saying in an interview that Jews should "get the hell out of Palestine" and "go home to Poland, Germany and the United States."

Thomas appeared to show no regret for last year's comments, reiterating in the Playboy interview her belief that "Israelis have the right to exist-but where they were born."

"Why shouldn't I say it? I knew exactly what I was doing-I was going for broke. I had reached the point of no return. You finally get fed up," Thomas said.

Thomas denied claims that she was anti-Jewish. "I think they're wonderful people. They had to have the most depth. They were leaders in civil rights. They've always had the heart for others but not for Arabs, for some reason. I'm not anti-Jewish; I'm anti-Zionist."

She explained her comment that Jews should go back to Poland and Germany meant "they should stay where they are because they're not being persecuted-not since World War II...If they were, we sure would hear about it." Thomas added that Jews "carry on the victimization. American people do not know that the Israeli lobbyists have intimidated them into believing that every Jew is a persecuted victim forever-while they are victimizing Palestinians."

When asked whether she believed their was a secret Jewish conspiracy at work in the US, Thomas stated that it is "not a secret. It's very open...Everybody is in the pocket of the Israeli lobbies, which are funded by wealthy supporters, including those from Hollywood. Same thing with the financial markets. There's total control."

UPDATE 1-Gaddafi tells Palestinians: revolt against Israel

Reuters

* Libyan leader says refugees should mass on Israel's shores

* 'This is a time of popular revolutions': Gaddafi

* Accuses Western powers of being enemies of Islam

TRIPOLI, Feb 13 (Reuters) - Palestinian refugees should capitalise on the wave of popular revolts in the Middle East by massing peacefully on the borders of Israel until it gives in to their demands, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi said on Sunday.

Gaddafi is respected in many parts of the Arab world for his uncompromising criticism of Israel and Arab leaders who have dealings with the Jewish state, though some people in the region dismiss his initiatives as unrealistic.

He was giving his first major speech since a popular uprising in neighbouring Egypt forced President Hosni Mubarak to resign, an event which electrified the Arab world and prompted speculation that other Arab governments could also be toppled...

1st Amendment Under Assault: Jimmy Carter Sued for $5 Million for Criticizing Israel

$5M suit over Jimmy Carter’s 'Palestine' book

NY Post

They want more than just peanuts.

A group of disgruntled readers filed a $5 million-plus suit against former President Jimmy Carter today over his book "Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid."

The Manhattan federal court filing claims the 2006 best-seller "is filled with demonstrable falsehoods, omissions and knowing misrepresentations intended to promote Carter’s agenda of anti-Israel propaganda."

The class-action suit charges the Nobel Peace Prize winner and publisher Simon & Schuster with breach of contract, unjust enrichment and deceit for promoting the $27 hard-cover "as a work of non-fiction."

"This lawsuit challenges the defendants’ actions in attempting to capitalize on Carter’s status as a former president of the United States to mislead unsuspecting members of the reading public who thought they could trust their former president to tell the truth," court papers say.

Carter’s press secretary didn’t return a request for comment, but Simon & Schuster called the suit "frivolous" and "without merit."

"It is a chilling attack on free speech that we intend to defend vigorously," spokesman Adam Rothberg said.

Jimmy Carter sued for alleged deceptions, fraud against Israel

Examiner.com

In a first-of-its-kind legal battle, a former U.S. President, as well as Nobel Peace Prize winner, is being sued for alleged deceptions and fraudulent statements against the State of Israel

The lawsuit was filed Wednesday in federal court in New York City against former President Jimmy Carter and his publisher, Simon & Schuster, alleging that Carter's non-fiction book, Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid, contained numerous false and knowingly misleading statements intended to promote the author's agenda of anti-Israel propaganda and to deceive the reading public instead of presenting accurate information as advertised.
The suit -- Unterberg et al. v. Jimmy Carter et .al (11 cv 0720) -- filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York seeks both compensatory and punitive damages.

The plaintiffs, who hope to have the case certified as a class action, are members of the reading public who purchased Carter's book expecting that they were buying an accurate and factual record of historic events concerning Israel and the Palestinian Arabs.

The class action lawsuit accuses Carter -- who holds himself out as a Middle-East expert -- and his publisher of intentionally promulgating untrue and inaccurate information and sought to capitalize on the author's notoriety as a former U.S. President to mislead unsuspecting members of the public.

The complaint alleges that the defendants' misrepresentations, all highly critical of Israel, violate New York consumer protection laws, specifically New York General Business Law section 349, which makes it unlawful to engage in deceptive acts in the course of conducting business. While acknowledging Carter's right to publish his personal views, the plaintiffs assert that the defendants violated the law and, thus, harmed those who purchased the book.

The suit is the first time a former President and a publishing house have been sued for violating consumer protection laws by knowingly publishing inaccurate information while promoting a book as factual...

Jimmy Carter being sued for alleged falsehoods

Jerusalem Post

$5 million lawsuit against former US president alleges one of his books on Israel intended to deceive public, promote anti-Israel agenda.

NEW YORK – A $5 million lawsuit filed in federal court in New York on Tuesday against former US President Jimmy Carter and publisher Simon & Schuster alleges that Carter’s 2006 book Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid contains false information and was intended to deceive the public and promote an anti-Israel agenda.

The five plaintiffs in the suit, readers of the book, want their lawsuit, which seeks compensatory and punitive damages, to be deemed a class action, meaning that the plaintiffs would be seen to represent a much larger group – that is, everyone who purchased Carter’s $27 book.

The plaintiffs are Americans, with two of the five holding dual American-Israeli citizenship...

Does Jimmy Carter Deserve To Be Sued?
He doesn’t deserve censorship. But he does deserve the hassle.

National Review

by Mona Charen

In a suit filed in federal court in New York, former president Jimmy Carter, along with his publisher, Simon and Schuster, is being sued by five readers of his 2006 book Palestine: Peace, Not Apartheid. The suit alleges that the defendants violated New York’s consumer-protection laws by committing “deceptive acts in the conduct of business, trade, or commerce.” The plaintiffs, who hope to be considered a class, were “members of the reading public who thought they could trust a former president of the United States and a well-established book publisher to tell the truth.”

Does Carter deserve this trouble? Oh yes, he deeply, richly deserves it. Should the suit prevail? More on that in a moment...

Zionist Leader Netanyahu Does Not Want to Share Jerusalem with the Palestinians

Israel's leader does not want to share Jerusalem

Israel's leader on Sunday dismissed a call from a key government partner to share the holy city of Jerusalem with the Palestinians, a reminder of the obstacles facing already troubled peacemaking efforts.

Conflicting claims to east Jerusalem lie at the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The dispute over the area, home to sensitive Jewish, Muslim and Christian holy sites, has derailed past peace talks and spilled into violence. Palestinians claim the sector as the capital of their future state.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's reaffirmation of his intention to hold on to east Jerusalem drew criticism from the Palestinians and was likely to increase friction with the Americans. The White House Mideast envoy is scheduled to arrive this week in another attempt to push peace efforts forward.

Netanyahu's defense minister, Ehud Barak of the centrist Labor Party, called for sharing Jerusalem with the Palestinians. But a government official said Barak's idea does not reflect the government's view...

Israel: IDF Troops Who Murdered Innocent People Are ‘Brave Heroes’

The government of Israel, aided by many quarters of the international media, is attempting to spin today’s deadly IDF assault on a humanitarian aid ship carrying supplies to Gaza as the fault of the murdered activists on board the vessel, ludicrously characterizing machine-gun carrying Israeli troops who killed over a dozen innocent people as the victims of the incident.

Israel Forces Fired On Sleeping Civillians Under Cover Of Darkness

While the Israeli government is praising it’s soldiers as heroes and saying they were acting in self defence by firing on unarmed civilians flying a white flag in international waters, one group involved with the Freedom Flotilla has a quite different story.

Israeli Commandos Storm Aid Flotilla; 9 Killed

JERUSALEM – Israeli naval commandos stormed a flotilla of ships carrying aid and hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists to the blockaded Gaza Strip on Monday, killing nine passengers in a botched raid that provoked international outrage and a diplomatic crisis.

Dozens of activists and six Israeli soldiers were wounded in the bloody predawn confrontation in international waters. Israeli Commandos Gun Down 19 Peace Activists In Raid On Gaza Ships With 28 Britons On Board

The Foreign Secretary today 'deplored' the loss of life during the interception of a flotilla of ships carrying aid to Gaza.

Up to 19 people were killed after Israeli commandos boarded ships carrying 10,000 tonnes of aid en route from Cyprus.

Another 26 people are being treated in two Israeli hospitals for injuries sustained in the assault.

Details of what happened remain sketchy after Israel imposed a news blackout, preventing activists on board the ships from contacting the outside world.

Israel Flotilla Action Criticised By Friends And Foes

DUBAI, May 31 (Reuters) - Israel's storming of a Gaza-bound aid flotilla set off a diplomatic furore, drawing criticism from friends and foes alike and straining ties with regional ally Turkey, which called off planned joint military exercises.

The United Nations Security Council called an emergency session for later on Monday following the killing of 10 of the mostly international activists aboard a six-ship convoy that tried to break Israel's blockade of Gaza...

Ten Dead As Israel Storms Aid Ship

(Reuters) - Israeli marines stormed a Turkish aid ship bound for Gaza on Monday and at least 10 pro-Palestinian activists were killed, triggering a diplomatic crisis and an emergency session of the U.N. Security Council.

European nations, as well as the United Nations and Turkey, voiced shock and outrage at the bloody end to the international campaigners' bid to break Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip.

Its navy stopped six ships ferrying 700 people and 10,000 tons of supplies toward the Islamist-run Palestinian enclave, but bloody miscalculation left Israel isolated and condemned.

Once-close Muslim ally Turkey accused it of "terrorism" in international waters, and the U.N. Security Council prepared an emergency session. Speaking for Israel's most powerful friend, the United States, President Barack Obama said he wanted the full facts soon and regretted the loss of life.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also voiced regret as he cut short a visit to Canada and rang Obama to call off a White House meeting planned for Tuesday.

He said his forces had been attacked. "They were mobbed, they were clubbed, they were beaten, stabbed, there was even a report of gunfire. And our soldiers had to defend themselves."

Netanyahu vowed to maintain a three-year-old embargo to stop Iranian-backed Hamas from bringing arms to Gaza.

His White House meeting had seemed intended to soothe ties with Obama, which have been strained by differences over Jewish settlement construction that had delayed a revival of peace talks with the Palestinians. But Obama must also balance support for Israel, which is popular with American voters, with understanding for an angry Turkey and other Muslim U.S. allies.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas seemed unlikely to hold further sessions soon of U.S.-mediated peace talks that began three weeks ago. He said: "What Israel has committed on board the Freedom Flotilla was a massacre."...

Israel In Eye Of Storm Over Deadly Gaza Ship Raid

Israel's allies froze military ties and summoned its ambassadors Monday over the storming of an aid flotilla bound for Gaza, as Muslim leaders slammed the deadly raid as "criminal" and "inhuman".

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said he was "shocked" by the Israeli navy's assault on a convoy carrying hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists, lawmakers and journalists through international waters towards besieged Gaza.

Ban called on Israel to "urgently" explain itself over the raid, which Israel's Channel 10 TV left 19 passengers killed and 36 wounded, many of them Turks...
