Sheriff Mack Announces Lawsuit Against SPLC, Run for Congress

The New American

At a speech in Sacramento, California, on December 10, Richard Mack, former sheriff of Graham County, Arizona, and founder of the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association (CSPOA), announced that within a matter of days he will be filing a lawsuit in federal court against the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) for slander, libel and defamation.

Sheriff Mack, who successfully challenged the 1993 federal Brady handgun control act in a landmark case that went all the way through the United States Supreme Court, has been an outspoken champion of constitutionally limited government and a critic of federal usurpation and abuse of police powers. The forty-year-old Southern Poverty Law Center is notorious for lionizing left-wing extremists (such as unrepentant Weather Underground terrorist Bill Ayers) and equally notorious for smearing innocent individuals and organizations with the “racist,” “extremist,” “anti-semitic,” “anti-government,” and “hate group” labels. It is not surprising then that it has targeted Richard Mack for vicious treatment in a number of its publications and web sites over the years. But even more troubling than what it has published about him, says Sheriff Mack, are the lies that it has spread to law enforcement agencies about him in the seminars and training programs the SPLC conducts for federal, state, and local agencies...[Full Article]

"Intellistreets" Street Lights: Big Brother Intrusion

The New American

When Ben Franklin declared, “Those who would give up essential Liberty to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety,” he wisely predicted that the American people would often be prone to willingly forego their rights for so-called protection from the federal government. The clearest example of that has been with the inception of the PATRIOT Act, which has garnered a surprising level of support from the majority of Americans; however, there are a number of local examples of that exchange of liberty for safety as well. The most recent example can be found in cities across the country: high tech street lights which act as surveillance cameras as well as display signs.

Produced by Illuminating Concepts, the “Intellistreets” feature motion sensors and video surveillance, and are composed of a “wireless digital infrastructure that allows them to be controlled remotely by means of a ubiquitous wi-fi link and a miniature computer housed inside each street light, allowing for ‘security, energy management, data harvesting and digital media,’” reports Prison Planet...[Full Article]

Sustainable Development Means a Wrenching Transformation of Your Life

The New American

...I’ll present my case point by point. First, there is a very clear connection between the United Nations and local Lincoln comprehensive development plans. The very term “Sustainable Development” first appeared in a 1987 report entitled “Our Common Future,” produced by the United Nations World Commission on Environment and Development. The term was first offered as official UN Policy in 1992 at the Earth Summit in a document that is today simply referred to as Agenda 21. In their own words here is what proponents of Agenda 21 said it is: “Agenda 21 proposes an array of actions which are intended to be implemented by EVERY person on Earth.... it calls for specific changes in the activities if ALL people.... Effective execution of Agenda 21 will REQUIRE a profound reorientation of ALL humans, unlike anything the world has ever experienced.” Agenda 21: The Earth Summit Strategy to Save Our Planet (Earthpress, 1992)...[Full Article]

Are Mental Health Professionals Working to Normalize Pedophilia?

The New American

As law enforcement agencies around the world continue to round up adults who prey on children, a small group of mental health professionals appears to be trying to facilitate a change in how pedophilia is defined and diagnosed. In fact, as reported by the Daily Caller, just such a group used an August 17 conference in Baltimore to discuss how “pedophiles themselves could play a role in removing pedophilia from the American Psychiatric Association’s bible of mental illnesses — the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), set to undergo a significant revision by 2013.” The conference was sponsored by B4U-ACT, which the Daily Caller described as “a group of pro-pedophile mental health professionals and sympathetic activists.” According to information provided on the group’s website, the focus of the conference was to bring together researchers and mental health professionals — as well as “minor-attracted persons” — in order to discuss, among other issues, ways in which pedophiles “can be involved in the DSM 5 revision process.”

The Daily Caller noted that B4U-ACT has been actively attacking “the APA’s definition of pedophilia in the run-up to the conference, denouncing its description of ‘minor-attracted persons’ as ‘inaccurate’ and ‘misleading’ because the current DSM links pedophilia with criminality” — a “stigma” B4U-ACT members would apparently like to see changed...[Full Article]

Is the new "Super Congress" Constitutional?

The New American

A number of constitutionalists have warned that the new "Super Congress" — technically a joint committee of Congress — may be unconstitutional. The new entity will be created out of the Obama-Boehner debt limit deal. "It smells," Representative Ron Paul (R-Texas) told Fox News August 1. "I just don't understand why Congress is so willing to give up its responsibilities to 12 people.... It's a reflection that they don't have answers."

Former New Jersey Superior Court Judge Andrew Napolitano told Fox News August 1 that he thinks the law may be unconstitutional:

"Members of the Senate and members of the House have the opportunity under the Constitution to debate items that are sent to them and to modify items that are sent to them. To force them to vote just yes or know with no debate, not to follow the rules of the House, which permits amendments, not to follow the rules of the Senate, which permits a filibuster, is such a substantial removal of the authority the Constitution gave them that this legislation is treading in waters that might not be constitutional."...[Full Article]

Sunshine State TSA Screener Seen Stealing From Suitcases

The New American

Written by Michael Tennant

Monday, 11 July 2011 00:00

TSAWhile other Transportation Security Administration employees were sticking their hands in other people’s pants, one of them was sticking other people’s property in his own pants, according to the Broward County, Florida, Sheriff’s office. Police report that 30-year-old Nelson Santiago, a TSA screener at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, was spotted stuffing an iPad from a passenger’s luggage into his pants. Under questioning, they say, he admitted to having stolen “computers, GPS devices, and video cameras from luggage he was screening” over the past six months, according to Miami/Fort Lauderdale TV station WPLG. Detectives estimate that Santiago expropriated over $50,000 worth of electronics.

Although the TSA, like most bureaucracies, is not known for its speed, police say Santiago proved to be a very fast worker indeed where his personal profit was concerned, taking photos of the stolen items with his cellphone and posting them online, where they would often sell even before his shift had ended.

Santiago’s victims were actually being robbed for the second time when he took their things. The first robbery occurred when they were forced to pay him to rummage through people’s luggage in violation of the Fourth Amendment. The Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel reports that Santiago’s salary from the TSA was probably $29,000 to $33,000, according to a TSA spokeswoman, who also stated that he is no longer employed by the agency. He was hired by the TSA in January 2009.

Santiago has been charged thus far with two counts of grand theft and released on bond.

Theft by TSA screeners is, unfortunately, so common that it hardly makes headlines anymore. Just this year, for instance, screeners at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport and Los Angeles International Airport were arrested for stealing from passengers. Nor is this a new problem: In 2004 ABC News reported that “more than 60 TSA screeners have been arrested for theft at 30 different airports” — a function, at least in part, of the agency’s breakneck hiring pace in its early years, during which 28,000 TSA agents were hired without criminal background checks.

Of course, an agency that specializes in ogling airplane passengers’ naked bodies and groping their private parts can hardly be expected to attract employees of the highest moral caliber. In addition, the TSA surely does not set a good example for its employees by turning over items confiscated from passengers, including such dangerous weapons as snow globes and fingernail clippers, to state and local governments, who in turn make a mint reselling those stolen goods. If it’s good enough for the boss, they may reasonably ask, why isn’t it good enough for the employees?

TSA screeners’ looting of luggage also demonstrates how feckless the agency is when it comes to providing real security. These employees are repeatedly able to steal items and get them safely out of airports under the very noses of other agents responsible for ensuring that dangerous weapons and individuals do not board airplanes. Santiago’s thefts went completely unnoticed (or, worse, were overlooked) by other TSA agents for half a year, and they were stopped only because a sharp-eyed Continental Airlines employee, not another TSA agent, happened to catch him in the act.

Constitutionalists have, for a long time, been calling for the abolition of the TSA. Santiago’s arrest and apparent confession provide just one more example of why this ineffective, unconstitutional agency needs to go.

Illegal Aliens Get More Welfare Benefits Than Citizens

The New American

Whether or not illegal aliens are doing jobs Americans won’t do, they’re certainly getting benefits Americans don’t get. This is the finding of a Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) report stating that a whopping 70 percent of illegal-immigrant households with children receive handouts via a government program. The rate for immigrant households with children overall (both legal and illegal) is 57 percent, versus only 39 percent for such native households.

This puts the lie to open-border advocates’ claim that immigration is a net plus for our nation. While this might have been true prior to the nanny state’s rise, when immigrants had to pull themselves up by their bootstraps, today’s statist, entitlement culture has changed that equation. As pressing one for English and Mexican flags waved in street protests evidence, many today come here not to assimilate but because “America, land of the free” has come to mean free stuff for non-Americans...[Full Article]

Obama's Illegal Libya War

The New American

I’m so mad about Libya that, in my mother’s inimitable phrase, I could chew nails and spit bullets. And no, I’m not talking about our pusillanimous leader in the White House, who can’t even get his Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense on the same page. I’ll get to that bunch of dishonest incompetents in a moment.

No, what set me over the top was what is supposed to be the nation’s most influential conservative publication, the Wall Street Journal. In a series of articles and editorials, this once-proud bastion of Americanist values has become nothing but a shill for neoconservative empire-building...[Full Article]

Should Homeland Security Control the GPS Network?

The New American

Americans have become accustomed to the presence of Global Positioning System (or GPS) technology embedded in everything from the GPS on their dash to their cell phones and iPads. In fact, GPS is nearly taken for granted for everything from locating a restaurant to navigating a fishing boat through the fog. But now it appears that GPS, which was developed primarily for its military applications, is rather overtly returning to its "national security" roots, as NASA plans to turn the security of the GPS system over to the Department of Homeland Security...[Full Article]

Faux (Neo) Conservatives Defend the North American Union

The New American

Thursday, 10 March 2011

The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) 2005 report “Building a North American Community" not only clearly outlined how George W. Bush’s lax policy on illegal immigration served to build the foundation of a North American Union, but also revealed the extent of Republican influence toward the creation of the NAU. Republican task force members who authored the blueprint for the NAU include Heidi Cruz (Economic Director for the Western Hemisphere at the National Security Council under Condoleezza Rice), Richard Falkenrath (Bush’s Deputy Homeland Security Adviser and fellow at the neoconservative Brookings Institution), and Carla Hills (a former Assistant Attorney General and U.S. Trade Representative under Presidents Ford and George H.W. Bush)...[Full Article]

Abraham Lincoln, Political Tyrant

The New American

...It wasn’t until I became an adult and started reading history on my own that I began to doubt the version of events I was taught several decades earlier. For example, did you know that Lincoln suspended civil liberties in the North, including the writ of habeas corpus? That he filled the jails with more than 13,000 political prisoners, all incarcerated without due process? The Supreme Court protested Lincoln’s disregard for our Constitutional protections, but the President replied he had a war to fight. Since he commanded the army, Lincoln won that argument...

TSA Couldn't Stop Moscow-Style Attack, Says Congressman

The New American

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the federal force charged with keeping the nation’s airports secure, would not have been able to detect and stop the type of attack at Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport on January 26. That was the warning given by U.S. Representative John Mica (R-Fla.), the new chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Russian authorities said the assault on the country’s busiest air hub, which killed at least 35 and injured over 180 others, was carried out by a suicide bomber wearing an improvised explosive device packed with shrapnel.

Mica warned that a program instituted by the TSA back in 2006, designed to identify potential terrorists in crowded airports, would not be capable of detecting a Moscow-style assault...

The Passing of Aaron Zelman, Founder of JPFO

The New American

When Aaron Zelman, the founder of Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership, died just before Christmas at his home in Wisconsin, eulogies poured in from people Zelman had impacted. One came from Eugene Volokh, who said that Zelman’s "most notable contribution was research pointing out the frequency with which genocide has been preceded by prohibiting arms possession by the targeted victims."

Zelman's updated book Death by Gun Control reviews the history of exterminations of unarmed peoples in Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, Mao’s China, Cambodia, Guatemala, Uganda, Armenia, Rwanda, and Bosnia. In Volokh’s review of that book, he noted:

The number of people killed by governments in the twentieth century is over two-thirds of the current population of the United States. As a cause of premature death, criminal governments massively outpace ordinary criminals.

A tribute from AmmoLand Gun News reminded its readers that Zelman’s seminal article exposed the 1968 Gun Control Act’s direct connection, courtesy of then-Senator Thomas Dodd, to the Nazi Gun Control Act of 1938, which led to the attempted extermination of all Jews in Germany after they were successfully disarmed: "Aaron had a take-no-prisoners way of thinking and challenged everyone from the NRA, to Washington bureaucrats to Ted Nugent in the name of the Second Amendment."

In an interview with John Birch Society president John F. McManus in 2008, Zelman said, “We’re not interested in compromise. We are only interested in the destruction of … the evil and deadly policy known as gun control.” ...

Fed Manipulations In The Crosshairs

Before the economic meltdown was in full swing, a Florida real-estate developer named William Pitts correctly read the signs pointing toward tough times ahead. In an effort to preserve some of his savings, he bought financial products that would increase in value as real-estate and banking collapsed. It seemed like the sensible thing to do. But though his analysis was correct, his investments went bust — because the U.S. Federal Reserve made them go bust. Pitts told The New American that in early-to-mid 2008, he became aware that well-respected financial analysts who had evaluated the health of large banks and the real-estate market concluded they were in terrible shape. And it was true. Examining the publicly disclosed financial statements of the big financial institutions also revealed trouble on the horizon.

Based on that information, Pitts sold his stock in large financial firms like Citibank and Bank of America while taking a “short position,” essentially betting that their value would go down. Along with countless others acting on the same information, he also purchased various exchange traded funds (ETFs) that would do well as real-estate’s and the big banks’ fates declined. And it would have been a smart move, Pitts recounted, “but then, a strange thing started happening”: massive cash infusions and major purchases of equities and stocks in both financials and real-estate.

It turns out that under the guise of “stabilizing” the economy, the Federal Reserve banking cartel had set in motion a series of actions that would eventually transfer trillions to the bankers at taxpayers’ expense, all while decimating the investments of countless average Americans like Pitts. The Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (SIGTARP) estimated the potential total cost of the combined crisis bailouts at $23.7 trillion, or more than $75,000 per person in the United States...

U.S. Military To Impose Order In American Towns In Time For November Elections

Written by Joe Wolverton, II
Monday, 26 April 2010 15:20

Within one month of the November midterm elections, a specially tasked unit of the United States Army will be on alert and ready to deploy within the borders of the United States to quell “civil unrest” that some fear may afflict the nation in the summer months prior to the elections.

Predictably, advocates of the unlawful deployment of our military use fear to foment support this action. They call to mind the summer of 1968 when riots and demonstrations decrying the country’s prolonged conflict with Viet Nam plagued some of America’s large cities. The summer of 2010, they advert, could be “our long, hot summer of discontent.” In order to prevent that eerie specter from becoming reality, proponents encourage Americans to welcome the calming presence of armed American troops patrolling potential hotspots.

The subordination of such an outfit, known as the Consequence Management Response Force (CCMRF), under the command of US Army Northern Command (NORTHCOM) was documented last year by this writer in The New American. Lest any suppose that such an overt act of tyranny be the product of our current President’s fertile fascist imagination, that account related how President Barack Obama was simply carrying out the historic reassignment implemented by President George W. Bush, who in 2008 claimed that as commander-in-chief, the President was authorized by the Constitution to use the armed forces as he saw fit, congressional opposition notwithstanding...
