Uproar after Jewish American newspaper publisher suggests Israel assassinate Barack Obama

Op-ed in Atlanta Jewish Times says the slaying of the president may be an effective way to thwart Iran's nuclear program.

Haaretz

NEW YORK - The owner and publisher of the Atlanta Jewish Times, Andrew Adler, has suggested that Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu consider ordering a Mossad hit team to assassinate U.S. President Barack Obama so that his successor will defend Israel against Iran.

Adler, who has since apologized for his article, listed three options for Israel to counter Iran’s nuclear weapons in an article published in his newspaper last Friday. The first is to launch a pre-emptive strike against Hamas and Hezbollah, the second is to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities and the third is to “give the go-ahead for U.S.-based Mossad agents to take out a president deemed unfriendly to Israel in order for the current vice president to take his place and forcefully dictate that the United States’ policy includes its helping the Jewish state obliterate its enemies.”...[Full Article]

Atlanta OKs surveillance center; cameras to watch city

Atlanta Journal Constitution

Big Brother is coming to Atlanta. Or is it a watchful eye that will make walking city streets safer?

On Monday, the Atlanta City Council approved a measure to network and monitor thousands of public and privately owned security cameras throughout Atlanta.

The cameras and images will be part of a new multi-million dollar video integration center, designed to compile and analyze footage from the network..

To start, images from as many as 500 cameras -- some city-owned and some private -- are expected to flow into the center, providing images from Piedmont Park to Underground Atlanta. The center will use software that can identify "suspicious" behavior and allow monitors to quickly deploy public safety personnel. The software is also capable of pinpointing where gunshots originate from.

The center is being built by a $2.6 million federal grant from the Department of Homeland Security and the Justice Department. The Atlanta Police Foundation – which funds the camera network operated by the Midtown Blue, a private security agency -- is also raising money to operate the center. The city has not determined yet how much it will cost to operate the center annually, but the Council is committed to establishing virtually blanket video monitoring of the city...[Full Article]

Atlanta Cop Beats Woman at Atlanta IHOP

Over the last few weeks, “beat downs” in public eateries have become common. Now the cops have joined in, as a cellphone video from Atlanta posted on YouTube reveals.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution notes that it is not clear what events preceded the capture of an off-duty cop slugging a woman in the face. It appears he was attempting to either arrest or subdue a patron before he hauled off and slugged a second woman in the face. The cop was working at the restaurant as a security guard.

“The Atlanta Police Department is aware of the incident that took place early Sunday morning involving one of its officers attempting to arrest a patron at an IHOP in Buckhead,” APD told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Tuesday. “The matter has been referred to our Office of Professional Standards to determine whether department policies and procedures were followed. Further comment at this time would not be appropriate.”

Violent cops assaulting men, women, and children has become an all too common and ugly feature of our society over the last few years. It is alarming that the recent videos reveal the increasing violence of young women.

Earlier this week, we were subjected to a video of a “transgender” person getting walloped at a McDonald’s in Maryland. Other violent incidents have surfaced lately, including a 2010 video of a woman who punched through a McDonald’s drive-through window because she couldn’t get Chicken McNuggets.

Atlanta Police Strip and Cavity Search Citizen During Traffic Stop

APD Unit Investigated Over Public Strip Search Claims

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Police Department has confirmed that it is conducting an internal investigation into inappropriate conduct accusations involving some members of the department’s Red Dog unit.

The three officers involved have been placed on administrative duty pending disciplinary decisions.

Channel 2 Action News reporter Eric Philips began piecing together the story after two men came forward and complained about possible officer misconduct during a June traffic stop on Fulton Street.

One of the men, who was driving, said members of the Red Dog unit pulled over his vehicle and forced him to pull down his pants on the side of the road in broad daylight, as officers conducted a search for drugs. No drugs were ever found, driver Brian Kidd said.

Kidd told Philips that his roommate, Shawn Venegas, was also subjected to a body cavity search that left him feeling uncomfortable.

“They went to his bottom part. That’s as low as you can go. I don’t think anybody should be subjected to that kind of search,” Kidd said. “I had to look away because I couldn’t watch my friend be done like that.”

Venegas said he was so traumatized by the incident that he moved to another state.

"I feel molested, and I feel like I was raped," Venegas told Philips over the phone...
